8-Bit Microcontroller Product Range

Microchip announces the 12-member PIC18F87J11 high-performance 8-bit microcontroller family, offering greater performance (up to 12 MIPS at 48 MHz), enhanced peripherals and lower standby power consumption. The new family includes nanoWatt Technology for low power consumption in sleep mode (as low as 100 nA) which is ideal for battery-powered applications. The new devices are also the first Microchip 8-bit microcontrollers to offer the Parallel Master Port for connection to external devices.

Example applications for the new devices include white goods, TCP/IP interfaces, security-system panels and keypads, server power-supply and temperature controllers, and data logging.

The 12 members of the PIC18F87J11 microcontroller family are supported by Microchip’s development systems, including the free MPLAB Integrated Development Environment (IDE) with Visual Device Initializer, the MPLAB C18 C Compiler, and the

MPLAB ICD 2 In-Circuit Debugger. The PICDEM HPC Explorer Board (part number DM183022) supports these devices using separate plug-in modules. The plug-in module for the PIC18F87J11 (part number MA180020) is expected to be available in March.

The new products are offered in 64- or 80-pin TQFP package options, and all are available as samples now. Volume-production is expected in March. For additional information visit Microchip’s Web site at www.microchip.com/PIC18J.
