Geeplus actuator provides highly accurate repeatability without high cost

Providing an economic way of positioning of small, low mass, optical elements for focussing or beam deflection mechanisms, where repeatability is critical, but the small deflection from the axis is not, a new, compact actuator from Geeplus combines a voice coil motor and steel flexures to guide the coil assembly for frictionless operation.

As the coil moves along its axis, the flexures describe an arc, but because they are supported between a pair of identical flexures the shaft maintains a fixed orientation relative to the mounting plane of the actuator.

An inexpensive way to achieve highly repeatable positioning where the displacement from axis can be accommodated in the users system, the actuator is derived from Geeplus VM1614 voice coil motor which measures only 16mm wide. Displacement is up to +/-1.5mm from the centre position and continuous force capability is 0.7N, peak force >2N at <10% ED. 0.7N is developed with a continuous power input of 5W.
