Enabling digital innovations with wireless connectivity platforms

Kontron has announced that aviation IT specialist, Lufthansa Systems, utilised the company’s Cab-n-Connect(TM) A100 cabin wireless access point (CWAP) as the wireless connectivity platform for its innovative testbed on Lufthansa´s FlyingLab flight September 7, 2019 from Munich to LAX (LH 452).

FlyingLab flights give passengers the ability to test and familiarise themselves first-hand with the latest technologies and services being developed for use on-board airlines.

Kontron’s Cab-n-Connect(TM) A100 CWAP features the 802.11ac WiFi protocol that substantially increases bandwidth efficiency for next-generation HD video on the aircraft. It allows both the client device and access point to work together to provide an optimised communication path for faster data transmission.

The Cab-n-Connect(TM) A100 also provides best-in-class network security based on its WiNG 5 operating system and AirDefense software. There are a number of software and security threats for devices that use airline cabin WiFi.

These include client-to-client data theft, client-to-server data theft, unauthorised system access and denial of service attacks. The AirDefense software, working in conjunction with the WiNG operating system on the Cab-n-Connect(TM) A100, provides a multi-layered security suite with proactive monitoring and threat prevention. The specific security features provided consist of rogue detection, intrusion prevention, active countermeasures and forensic analysis.

Kontron’s certified open-architecture solutions consistently offer the a cost-effective and short route to deployment. There are currently more than 4,500 commercial aircraft and business jets operating worldwide with Kontron equipment on board.
