The approval allows customers to design the tiny module into automotive, industrial and consumer devices operating on North Americas extensive 4G LTE networks. Fall-back capability to HSPA+, HSPA and GSM also allows devices to operate and roam globally or in areas where LTE coverage is not available.
The TOBY-L200 is suitable for use in applications such as car infotainment and navigation systems, tablets and notebooks, set-top boxes and rugged handsets. It can also be utilised for high-speed M2M uses including digital signage, transit systems, mobile health products and remote monitoring and video systems.
A complete 4G/3G/2G voice/data module for applications which require also roaming outside of North America’s 4G LTE networks, the module provides full circuit-switched voice and data capability as well as a full suite of IP protocol stacks including dual IPv4/IPv6 stack for IoT security. Direct A-GPS support for accelerated positioning and u-blox’ unique CellLocate hybrid positioning technology enable advanced GNSS positioning capabilities, including indoor positioning.
TOBY-L200 provides efficient and cost-effective mobile connectivity in an LGA form factor which is layout-compatible with u-blox’s GSM/GPRS and HSPA/HSPA+ modules, supporting backward-compatible designs and single-SKU products.u-blox’s ‘Nested Design’ philosophy allows engineers to develop one hardware/software platform to support GSM/GPRS, HSPA, LTE, and multi-mode operation depending on their end customer requirements.
Nikolaos Papadopoulos, President, u-blox America, comments: “u-blox is proud that our TOBY-L200 module is now certified on all major North American 4G LTE networks. Our robust voice and data module delivers powerful 4G LTE performance with 3G and 2G fallback in the smallest package on the market. With Cat. 4 performance of 150Mb/s speed, it is also the fastest LTE modem on the market.”
Linux natively supports TOBY-L200 drivers; while RIL software for Android and Embedded Windows is available free of charge from u-blox.
