Diodes simplifies in-vehicle USB-C connectivity

Diodes enhances modern in-car connectivity with the debut of its 10Gbps automotive-compliant* crossbar switch, adding convenience and performance

. Engineered to route USB 3.2 and DisplayPort 2.1 signals via a USB Type-C connector, Diodes’ latest switch, the PI3USB31532Q, ensures superior signal integrity and power efficiency compared to traditional crossbar multiplexers and ReDrivers. This crossbar switch is tailored for rear-seat entertainment systems and smart cockpits featuring large, high-definition displays.

The PI3USB31532Q offers support for three configuration modes with USB Type-C compliance, presenting a range of choices for designers. It can link a single lane of USB 3.2 Gen 2 to the USB Type-C connector; connect one lane of USB 3.2 Gen 2 and two channels of DP 2.1 UHBR10; or connect four channels of DP 2.1 UHBR10. In DisplayPort configuration, the PI3USB31532Q also establishes connections between the complementary AUX channels and the USB Type-C sideband pins: SBU1 and SBU2. Configuration is managed via I2C or on-chip logic using four external pins.

Housed in the 40-pin W-QFN3060-40 package and occupying a compact 3mm x 6mm footprint, the PI3USB31532Q offers flexibility and performance while conserving space. It ensures high signal integrity with an -3dB bandwidth of 8.3GHz, and minimal insertion loss, return loss, and crosstalk of -1.7dB, -15dB, and -38dB respectively at 10Gbps.

The new crossbar switch complies with automotive standards*—qualified to AEC-Q100 Grade 2, suitable for use in environments experiencing temperatures ranging from -40°C to +105°C. It is manufactured in IATF 16949 certified facilities and is PPAP capable. The PI3USB31532Q is available at $1.10 in 3,500-piece quantities.
