Operating over an industrial temperature range from -40 to +85°C, the ADCs are claimed to provide best-in-class power consumption and power-to-performance ratio. The devices use only 200mW per channel at the fastest sampling rate of 160MSPS, scaling to 44mW per channel at 25MSPS. According to TI, this is 80mW per channel less and a 30% better power-to-performance ratio than similar devices.
Compliant with subclass 0, 1 and 2 at up to 3.2Gbps, the JESD204B variants support one lane per ADC output up to 160MSPS and one lane per two ADCs for up to 80MSPS to simplify board routing. The ADC3k family provides optional dither and chopper functions to improve spurious free dynamic range and remove 1/f noise. This enables designers to optimise device performance to meet system needs.
The ADC3k family is supplied in a 7x7mm QFN package, except the four channel LVDS versions, which use an 8x8mm QFN package. Prices for the family range from $23.95 to $120.75 each in 1,000 unit quantities. Samples are available now and the ADC34J45, a 160MSPS, 14-bit, four channel ADC with a JESD204B interface, is in production now. TI also offers several EVMs for the ADC3k family for $299.
