Rugged FPGA based offers flexible I/O interfacing options

A rugged DSP and FPGA based card from CommAgility is now shipping. The VPX-D16A4, the company’s first board in the compact VITA 65, 3U OpenVPX form factor, features a wide operating temperature range of -40-+70°C. The card is based on Texas Instrument’s (TI) TCI6638K2K KeyStone-based SoC and TMS320C6678 SoC, both of which contain 16 C66x DSP cores and four ARM Cortex-A15 cores.

The SoCs are coupled with TI’s HyperLink bus, in additon to Gigabit Ethernet, delivering a 20Gbaud SRIO link to the VPX backplane. Support for SRIO, Ethernet, CPRI and Multi-Gigabit Transceiver (MGT) to the backplane highlights the fc, with the card also providing links to to RF or analogue I/O. The main DSP can be connected via PCI Express and the AIF2 CPRI interface to a Xilinx Kintex-7 K325T FPGA for additional I/O or co-processing. This also has Gigabit Ethernet and its own backplane MGT connections.

To accelerate customer development, a full Linux BSP and example software support is provided. This is based on TI’s Multicore Software Development Kit (MCSDK) for Linux and the Xilinx Vivado FPGA development suite. The VPX-D16A4 is suitable for software defined radio (SDR), imaging or radar, military and other harsh field deployment environments. Conduction cooled and air cooled versions of the board are available.
