20W converters target rugged industrial applications

With a fully potted and metal cased construction for harsh environments, the AXA series of compact 20W high power density DC/DC converters have been unveiled by Artesyn Embedded Technologies. They are suited for use in battery-operated equipment, instrumentation, distributed power architectures in communications and industrial electronics and other space critical-applications.

The AXA series’ rugged construction enables them to operate over a temperature range from -40 to +85°C. Artesyn supplies an optional clip-on heat sink to extend the thermal performance in a convection or forced-air environment.

Providing up to 89% efficiency, the modules cover an ultra-wide 4:1 input voltage range of 9-36V DC and 18-75V DC. The first available converters offer single output models with voltages of 3.3, 5, 12, 15 and 24V, as well as with dual output models offering ±12 or 15V, all with tight output voltage regulation.

The converters also feature overload protection, remote on/off control, input-to-output isolation voltage of 1500V DC, and the output voltage can be trimmed by ±10% of the nominal output. Enclosed in a 1.0×1.0x0.4″ (25.4×25.4×10.16mm) package, all models are approved to CSA/NTRL/IEC/EN 60950-1 for IT equipment.
