Ohmite have said that they expect specific applications in medical devices such as defibrillators where the standard discharge pulse is around 360J. The EY Series is also suited to automatic placement.
According to the manufacturer, designers currently configuring multiple resistors to achieve their desired energy rating can now use EY resistors to accomplish the same task. This results in reduced inventory and board space, as well as lower manufacturing and overall cost.
