These include ‘bump in the wire’ applications such as policy enforcement, security gateways, and firewalls as well as network monitoring and optimization, and lawful intercept.
Building on Emerson Network Power’s number one position in ATCA*, the new FlowPilot software provides the foundation for network intelligence applications, allowing users to deploy context-aware network applications faster, more cost effectively and with less risk. The initial release of FlowPilot software acts as the platform’s central packet dispatcher to achieve low latency, full wire speed, and context-aware packet distribution to and from all processing blades in the system. Emerson has collaborated with network intelligence software specialist Qosmos to enable customers to manage those data flows down to individual processors, cores or virtual machines.
“Exponential growth in bandwidth demand and multimedia traffic combined with network convergence and demand for more defenses in the network is driving the need for network appliance vendors who provide traffic inspection, bandwidth optimization, and security services to offer gateway solutions at high-speed traffic choke points,” said Rob Pettigrew, director of marketing for Emerson Network Power’s Embedded Computing business. “These vendors need to differentiate themselves by focusing on their application rather than the technology behind how data flows are managed within the computing platform. Our new integrated application-ready DPI platforms provide a perfect fit for addressing these challenges.”
Emerson Network Power has also recently joined the Network Intelligence Alliance, an industry organization created for collaboration among the network economy’s technology providers. Combining the company’s broad portfolio of ATCA products with NI Alliance members’ value-add will help accelerate and simplify network equipment providers application of network intelligence.
