Woop, woop, that’s the sound of the hoverbike
The general public can already order an UberCHOPPER in Dubai, and now the police force may soon be equipped with hovering motorbikes. The hoverbike concept, developed by Russian company Hoversurf, was unveiled at Dubai’s Gitex Technology week which took place 8th to 12th October 2017. The Dubai police have supposedly ordered an entire fleet.
Called Scorpion, the electric bike can reach a speed of 40mph and can currently travel for 25 minutes and carry up to 300kg.
According to its creators, the Scorpion platform is a single-seat aircraft that rediscovers the art of flying and hovering, resulting in a hi-tech quadcopter-based solution. It’s an electric-powered vessel that combines a motorcycle seat with quadcopter drone technology.
Currently, the hoverbike is seen as an extreme sports vehicle, but the police officers hope that it will enable them to quickly get to the scene of accidents, avoiding the supercars that clog Dubai’s roads.
Without a police officer aboard, the bike can reach heights of 6m. Once the officer is on the bike it can still get up to 5m.
While the rider perches precariously close to the blades, the hoverbike is equipped with a safety system powered by flight controllers, special logical programing, and passive elements with computer aided speed and altitude limiting.
