Anritsu Corporation announces that its MD8480C Signaling Tester with Dual-Carrier HSPA Evolution support has been selected by Sierra Wireless to demonstrate performance of the Sierra Wireless AirCard® 312U mobile broadband modem at Mobile World Congress (MWC). The demonstration is showcased at the Anritsu stand 1B31 during MWC, held in Barcelona, February 15-18.

The demonstration will show maximum download speeds from a simulated Rel. 8 HSPA Evolution network to the Sierra Wireless AirCard 312U modem, with the MD8480C Signaling Tester serving as the HSPA Evolution base station and network simulator. Anritsu's solution supports the latest HSPA data rates of 42.2 Mbps in the downlink and 11 Mbps in the uplink.

“We are pleased to work with Sierra Wireless to demonstrate the exceptional performance of the AirCard 312U HSPA Evolution modem, said Tony Paredes, General Manager of Anritsu Canada. The MD8480C is the only dual-carrier HSPA Evolution solution on the market, and was developed based on Anritsu being actively involved in standards organizations and working with HSPA Evolution chipset and device manufacturers.

Cost-effective HSPA Evolution Network Simulation The MD8480C W-CDMA Signaling Tester is a base station simulator with layer 1 to layer 3 protocol development and application test functions for GSM/W-CDMA mobile devices supporting Release 99 to Release 8. It has an air interface conforming to 3GPP specifications and supports a full range of tests, including coding/decoding, protocol sequence testing, voice and data communications testing (circuit switch, packet switch), and UE end-to-end testing. The MD8480C is highly configurable, and is available with up to 4 base stations and 2 RFs simultaneously.

The Sierra Wireless AirCard 312U supports Dual-Carrier HSPA Evolution functionality for downlink data rates of up to 42.2 Mbps, and is based on the Qualcomm MDM8220 chipset. This product expands Sierra Wireless’ industry-leading AirCard product portfolio, providing reliable, high-quality performance to consumers and network efficiency to operators.

“Developing successful technology-leading products involves much more than building demonstration prototypes, and Sierra Wireless has a proven process for getting these products to market quickly and meeting customer requirements, said Pierre Teyssier, Senior Vice President, Engineering for Sierra Wireless. “Having capable test equipment available is critical to this process, and Sierra Wireless depends on Anritsu to provide that test capability for its HSPA Evolution AirCard products.”
