USB based TAP from New Forest Electronics

New Forest Electronics has introduced a new portable USB based unit into its range of TAPs (Test Access Points), interface devices that allow diagnostic access to computer networks without breaking the circuit.

This new TAP has a USB port that connects directly into a standard PC, so that no extra network cards are needed on the PC. In other words, it provides Full-Duplex aggregation into USB2.0.

It is also powered via the USB port, so eliminating the separate power supply traditionally required.

Despite being a small portable unit, it still includes all the features of more traditional TAPs, such as non intrusive in-line monitoring, permanent network link guaranteed, monitoring for all protocol levels, and no package loss

As such it provides a perfect partner for existing software analysers like Wireshark/Ethereal or any other commercial analyser
