Ultrasonic flow meter provides single-chip solution

The AS6040 ultrasonic flow meter from ScioSense is now being shipped by distributor Mouser Electronics.

The ultra-low-power meter is designed for industrial and residential gas meters, and suitable for water meters.

The flow meter incorporates four system blocks — supervisor, analogue front end, post processing, and interface — to create a single-chip solution for flow rate measurements.

The supervisor features an integrated ultra-low-power 32-bit CPU to manage all tasks, making the AS6040 autonomous.

The front end integrates a high-voltage driver, an integrated programmable gain amplifier, and an offset-stabilised comparator in the receive path, plus precision time-of-flight measurement, amplitude measurement, and temperature measurement.

A Serial Peripheral Interface (SPI) bus makes it compatible with almost any host microcontroller, simplifying integration.

Mouser also stocks the AS6031 ultrasonic flow meter, which combines precise measurement and complex flow calculation to simplify the design of next-generation ultrasonic water and heat meters.

It is based on the TDC-GP30 platform and uses the same high-performance front end for driving the transducers and processing the receive signal to extract the time-of-flight information.

An additional programmable amplifier allows handling weaker receive amplitudes.

The AS6040 and AS6031 meters are supported by the AS6040 development tool and AS6031 development tool, respectively.

Enabling quick and easy start-up and evaluation, the kits support the functionality needed for standard water and heat meters and offer user-friendly configuration.
