IKEA launches a smart sensor to measure indoor air quality

The new VINDSTYRKA air quality sensor allows measuring and monitoring of indoor air pollutant levels, complementing the existing IKEA range of smart solutions that enable better air quality in the home.

According to WHO, nine out of 10 people globally breathe polluted air. Indoor air can be just as polluted as outdoor air, yet many underestimate the risk of air pollution in their homes.

IKEA is committed to give everyone access to clean air by increasing awareness of indoor pollutants and providing solutions that improve the quality of the air we breathe.

Delta launches two new area sensors: AS-E and AS-T

Delta has added two new area sensors - AS-E and AS-T - to its portfolio. The powerful AS-E and AS-T models each sense a bigger part between the sensor lines, allowing them to detect and register products, ingredients, and components. An example could be to identify an item falling from a conveyor belt or moving to an incorrect destination while being transported. This reduces losses and helps to minimise material wastage and transportation of wrong items.

Both the standard AS-E area sensor and its more robust counterpart AS-T for outdoor use support comprehensive no-dead-zone detection within their working area. They are ideally suited for a diverse range of deployment scenarios in industrial applications.

Spectral sensor IC combines UV-A, UV-B and UV-C

In stock at distributor Mouser Electronics is the AS7331 3-channel UV-A/B/C spectral sensor IC from ams OSRAM.

This three-channel sensor uses interference filters to produce precisely characterised responsivity to radiation in the UV-A (315 nm to 410 nm), UV-B (280 nm to 315 nm) and UV-C (240 nm to 280 nm) wavelength bands.

The filters also provide excellent rejection of interference from ambient visible and near infrared light sources.

Detecting metal particle contamination invisble to the human eye

Implementing stringent quality control procedures in any manufacturing facility is essential, from the raw materials stage onward. The pharmaceutical, cosmetic, industrial and food and beverage industries, in particular, pay close attention to the intrusion of contaminants – even those too small to be visible to the human eye. For instance, a minute impurity in the lithium-ion battery of a smartphone might result in capacity loss, heat generation, or even cause a fire.
