UK-based SI Sensors, a division of Specialised Imaging, is seeking to make custom CMOS image sensors more accessible by reducing the cost of prototyping and small-scale production.
The company, which designs and produces high-performance CMOS image sensors tailored to customers’ needs, says its combination of in-house expertise, proprietary intellectual property, and relationships with global foundries allows it to deliver advanced imaging solutions at lower cost.
General Manager Phil Brown said the firm’s goal was to “achieve the best balance between image sensor performance and cost for every customer”. He added that SI Sensors used its “extensive in-house IP and design experience together with the latest software tools to design novel image sensors using the most appropriate foundry technologies globally”.
SI Sensors’ design team draws on wide-ranging experience in imaging technologies, including visible and non-visible light detection, ultra-fast burst mode capture, and radiation-hardened designs. Its engineers also provide integrated packaging solutions that encompass electrical, mechanical, optical, and thermal interfaces.
To ensure consistent performance and reliability, the company carries out detailed electro-optical testing from characterisation to mass production, following industry standards such as EMVA 1288 and ESCC 9020.
By combining specialist knowledge with flexible manufacturing partnerships, SI Sensors is positioning itself as a cost-effective alternative for companies seeking high-performance custom sensor development.
