Nanomaterials innovator Quantum Science (QS) has secured another grant funding win to expand its opportunities overseas.

The grant from the Department for International Trade (DfIT) will enable the QS team to visit Japan later this year to build relationships with customers.

The business trip will advance QS’s business’ prospects in Japan, which is one of the most important markets for sensing technologies.

The news comes months after QS won a grant from Innovate UK to boost its work developing and commercialising its patented INFIQ infrared quantum dot technology.

Dr Hao Pang, founder and CEO of Quantum Science, welcomed the news stating: “It is immensely satisfying to see the value of our work recognised with further grant funding, which will help us expand our horizons into new markets. As QS continues to grow, funding like this is vital for us to continue developing our commercial opportunities.

“We can’t wait to share our state-of-the-art INFIQ quantum dots with Japanese businesses. The wider the reach we can secure with these products, the faster we can supercharge the development of world-changing technologies.”

QS’s INFIQ quantum dots absorb broadband infrared light to enable high performance infrared sensing and imaging at a mass market affordable price.

Earlier this year, QS announced a distribution agreement in Japan with Nishimura Chemitech (NYS), the foremost Japanese semiconductor, chemicals and equipment materials distributor. NYS will market and sell QS’s INFIQ infrared quantum dots to customers in Japan, promising significant application opportunities in sectors including consumer electronics and machine vision.

DfIT Internationalisation Fund grants are available to businesses based in England with up to 250 staff and an annual turnover of no more than €50 million.

They can be used to support areas including market research, translation services, independent market visits and more.
