Magnetic sensor has on-chip signal processing

Mouser Electronics is now stocking the MMC3630KJ ±30 G 3-axis magnetic sensor from MEMSIC.

This magnetic sensor includes on-chip signal processing and an integrated I2C bus. The MMC3630KJ eliminates the requirement for A/D converters or timing resources by connecting directly to a microprocessor.

The device measures magnetic fields within the full-scale range of ±30 G, via 1 mG per LSB resolution at 16 bits operation mode and 2 mG total RMS noise level.

This allows a heading accuracy of ±1° in electronic compass applications. The MMC3630KJ supplies an I2C digital output with 400 KHz, fast-mode operation.

The sensor is housed in an ultra-small low profile 1.2 mm x 1.2 mm x 0.5 mm BGA package and has an -40°C to +85°C operating temperature range.

Typical applications include GPS navigation, electronic compasses and position sensing.
