Designed for robotics, gaming, remote controls, navigation systems, drones and HIDs for IoT projects, the BMF055 compact 9-axis motion sensor has been unveiled by Bosch Sensortec. Easy to programme for a particular application, the BMF055 is well suited to the needs of customers developing advanced application-specific sensor fusion algorithms, adding sophisticated motion sensing capabilities, and replacing multiple discrete components with a single package.

The sensor combines an accelerometer, a gyroscope and a magnetometer with a Cortex M0+ processor from Atmel’s SAMD20 MCU family. In a compact single 5.2 x 3.8 x 1.1mm3 package, it provides this high level functionality in a ‘one stop shop’ solution, making integration easier for the customers.

With the BMF055, Bosch Sensortec provides a Software Development Package that includes a precompiled BSX Lite fusion library with integration guidelines, API source files for individual sensors and example projects as a plugin for Atmel Studio. The Atmel toolchain can be downloaded from Atmel’s website. This software development package will enable customers to easily develop their own application-specific firmware for the BMF055 sensor without requiring an additional application processor.

Dr. Stefan Finkbeiner, CEO and General Manager, Bosch Sensortec, commented: “The BMF055 sensor from the ASSN family is ideal for applications such as robotics, drones, gaming and navigation systems, which need a customised system-in-package solution. By providing a comprehensive software development package, we are enabling our customers to create highly-customised sensor systems that meet their exact application requirements.”
