Pewatron has announced customised zirconia oxygen sensor modules and accessories for measuring ranges from ppm up to 95%. Pewatron's customisation allows the customer to put together the best suited oxygen module for any particular application. The oxygen sensors cannot be changed in form, fit or function, but the 4 sensor types (FCX-ULL, UL, UC and UWC) cover almost the full range of oxygen concentration ranges and can also work as humidity sensors.

This fact is being explored and used in many applications and with success working as a humidity sensors controlling the humidity at high temperatures (over 100°C) in industrial bakery ovens The oxygen sensors generally work up to 300°C and can be ordered for operation at these high temperatures. Ordering a high temperature oxygen sensor means that the sensors are factory calibrated to work in a ±50°C range of a target temperature between 0 and+ 250°C.

The FCX-MC module can be changed in size in order to fit into an existing or new application via a redesign. The current size of the module is optimized for a number of applications, including mounting of the module into racks. For that reason, the module can also be delivered with a standard DIN connector for rack mounting. The FCX-MLmodule already has a small size and cannot be made any smaller. Both module types have the PCB layout and finish using standard SMD components, ensuring long time supply stability.

The FCX-MC module can be delivered with standard digital output signals, such as RS-485 or I2C. The communication bit rate can be individually optimized and address programmed directly. The digital signal output capability of the FCX-MC module is important for future digital manufacturing and production schemes, the likes being defined for example by the Industry 4.0 initiative. The serial connection of many oxygen sensor modules with different addresses is possible using the digital communication interface offered by Pewatron.

Most customer driven changes are made to the sensor used in applications where the sensor needs to be connected to the PCB via cables. The standard heading is a small PCB board that can be used to fasten the sensor onto the application, but this PCB board can only withhold around 100°C in operation. Pewatron has developed two sensor head solutions that can be mounted directly in the application and that can be operated up to 200°C. Pewatron also offers cables capable of operating up to 200°C. All cables are high quality and low EMC noise cables. Since the sensor signal itself is only in the µA range, it is not recommended to use cable lengths longer than 5m. The cable connection to the PCB boards are made using 5 pole connectors and the cable termination is protected against EMC using EMC noise absorbers.

The range of customization is large so many things can be done to customize the oxygen modules. Pewatron is constantly working on the optimization of the sensor itself in order to be able to introduce it into very demanding applications. The company has a special focus on requirements such as long term stability of the sensor modules, accuracy, response time and applications such as the use of the sensor as a humidity sensor. Pewatron can cover almost any application where a controlled atmosphere is required.
