Baumer releases new streamlined sensors

Baumer has introduced a new series of sensors that stands out for its precise measurement capabilities, reaching up to five micrometres, all packaged within a notably compact form.

The 'smart' 2D OX series sensors utilise profile analysis to facilitate more efficient and cost-effective positioning and inspection tasks in various assembly and handling applications.

These 2D profile sensors are optimised for use in manufacturing environments where pass/fail inspections or positioning tasks are determined through height data analysis. They offer measuring ranges of up to 500mm and field views as wide as 300mm, enabling flexible design options for diverse applications. Users can configure a comprehensive suite of integrated tools directly through an intuitive web interface, allowing for the processing of profile data by the smart sensor without external intervention.

The sensor is capable of communicating the X/Z position value directly to the control system with precision that can reach five micrometres, obviating the need for additional processing. This accuracy ensures that the OX series can be an efficient option for applications in quality assurance, edge control in web processing, and robotic positioning. Another feature is the ability to observe and adjust measurement tasks in real time via the web interface, which permits the verification and optimisation of sensor settings directly.

Compact and lightweight, the OX series sensors are designed for ease of integration, facilitated by a Power-over-Ethernet (PoE) connection that requires only a single cable. They are apt for a variety of tasks including checking the height of assembly parts, controlling and positioning in robotic applications, such as confirming the alignment of feeder parts for pick-and-place processes, or monitoring gaps in the automotive production line.
