9-axis motion sensor is hailed as industry's smallest
Housed in a compact 2.5x3.0x0.95mm3 package, the BMX160 has been announced by Bosch Sensortec as the world’s smallest 9-axis motion sensor. The device is suited for space- and power-constrained applications such as smartphones, smart watches, fitness trackers, smart jewelry (e.g. rings, necklaces) as well as AR/VR devices.
ST & Qualcomm collaborate on sensors for smart mobile devices
STMicroelectronics has announced that Qualcomm Technologies intends to add software support for ST’s inertial sensor solutions including its iNEMO inertial module. The companies expect that the support will enable the rapid introduction of Android smartphones based on Qualcomm Snapdragon processors with minimised power consumption and high-performing sensor capabilities through the use of hardware features integrated into the sensor.
The new code reader for faster decoding
A new code reader for the fast decoding of 1D, stacked and 2D codes has been developed for equipment used in packaging systems, automation, robotics and production (ARP). The DCR 200i from Leuze electronic is the has surprisingly simple handling that ensures a significant saving of time during commissioning and when changing devices. Furthermore, the DCR 200i impresses with its extremely high reading performance.
Air quality sensors track pollution
Glimpses of blue sky are becoming a rare sight in Delhi, India's capital, particularly in wintertime, when a thick white haze smothers the city. David Hagan, an MIT PhD candidate studying atmospheric chemistry and a Fellow in the MIT Tata Center for Technology and Design, says that the city's air quality is now quantifiably among the worst in the world. "Beijing has bad episodes, but Delhi is worse because of the meteorology," says Hagan.
Watch the ultimate in 21st century armoured combat
Unified Weapons Master (UWM) has released the first footage of its recent Vital Target Combat (VTC1) Underground Test Event held in Wellington, New Zealand in March. The footage includes fights conducted by the six international weapons martial artists who attended from around the globe.

Force sensing technology enhances touch screen market
Zytronic has announced the addition of force sensing to its touch sensors allowing ATMs, kiosks, game terminals and interactive video walls to differentiate between a soft and hard touch. Force or pressure sensing is becoming available on smartphones and tablets.
knitter-switch widens range of detector switches
knitter-switch now offers an extended product range of detector switches. Detector switches are used for recognition of variation or manipulation of movable or removable parts such as caps, covers, or connections. For example, they are used in printers to notify users when the papertray is empty. They are also responsible for recognising manipulation of smoke detectors.
