Sensor technology set to make waves
At a recent event in London, Texas Instruments (TI) unveiled a new sensor portfolio aimed at automotive radar, industrial and infrastructure applications, bringing what the company claims is a new level of precision sensing to the industry. Electronic Specifier attended the launch event where Greg Delagi, Senior Vice President, Embedded Processing and Sameer Wasson, General Manager, Processors, at Texas Instruments discussed the new offering.
ICs have analogue output in miniature SIP packages
Allegro MicroSystems Europe has announced two new linear Hall-effect sensor ICs with analogue output, targeted at the automotive and industrial markets. New applications for linear output Hall-effect sensor ICs, such as displacement and angular position, require higher accuracy and smaller package sizes. Allegro’s A1308 and A1309 devices have been designed specifically to meet both requirements.
Dual die latch and switch sensor delivers accurate measurement
Microelectronics engineering company, Melexis, has announced a range of new magnetic latch and switch sensors that it claims are the first in the world to feature two silicon dice in the same package. The highly reliable devices, which are aimed at automotive applications including transmission, power steering, braking and locks/latches, represent a major advance in magnetic sensing technology. By integrating two ICs into a single package, M...
Heated humidity sensor for weather observations
Dedicated for use in radiosondes and weather balloons, E+E Elektronik has released the HMC03M humidity sensor. The sensor is characterised by a short response time even at low temperature. An integrated heating resistor ensures measuring performance under condensation and icing conditions. This makes the sensor suitable for weather observations in the upper atmosphere. The HMC03M combines on a silicon substrate a capacitive relative humidity...
Multi-axis inertial measurement will revolutionise consumer electronics
MEMS combo sensors that combine multiple sensing capabilities - accelerometers, gyroscopes, pressure sensors, compasses, etc. - in a single device, with a small footprint, have seen their applications explode.
Strain sensors support load measurements
The Micro-Measurements brand of Vishay Precision Group has announced the introduction of its S5060 Series, a line of Transducer Class multi-grid advanced strain sensors. The Series is designed to facilitate reliable, accurate, cost-effective multi-axis force, torque/axial and torsional load measurements within robotics, factory automation, machinery and tooling, agricultural and off-highway vehicle, and materials testing applications. T...
Angular position sensors target industrial markets
Manufacturer of electromechanical switch and sensor solutions for the industrial market sector, ZF Switches & Sensors, can now offer designers a complete range of angular position sensors based on Hall Effect technology which responds to magnetic fields generated by a (rare-earth) magnet. The sensors provide a linear change in voltage output corresponding to the rotation of the actuator. The ANG series of sensors are non-contact angular ...
IoT based monitoring system on display at Sensor + Test
At the Nuremberg Sensor + Test Trade Fair taking place from 30th May to 1st June, Lemonbeat will be presenting its 'innogy bit.B' solution in hall 2, booth 2-404. The process and energy monitoring system, which records, monitors and evaluates the energy, production and environmental data of industrial machinery, is based on the Lemonbeat IoT technology.
Active matrix sensor overcomes false touch issues
Peratech has been selected to participate in the Innovation Zone (I-Zone) at SID Display Week 2017. The I-Zone showcases cutting-edge demos and prototypes expected to become the products of tomorrow. The SID conference, premiering the best display technologies and related electronics, takes place in Los Angeles, CA. Peratech will profile its active matrix sensor and other innovative force / touch solutions based on its Quantum Tunnelling Com...
A smarter alternative to the crash test dummy
EU-funded researchers have developed user-friendly tools to position and personalise advanced Human Body Models for use in designing safer vehicles. Whenever you get behind the wheel or strap on a seatbelt as a passenger, you are surrounded by passive safety mechanisms. Whether it be the seat belt itself, an air bag or the layout of the passenger area, passive safety refers to all the design measures taken to protect a vehicle’s occupa...
