The TLV493D-A1B6 3D magnetic sensor from Infineon Technologies is now being shipped by Mouser Electronics. The magnetic sensor offers accurate three dimensional sensing plus integrated temperature sensing with low power consumption. Within its small six-pin package, the sensor provides direct measurement of the x, y, and z magnetic axes, making it well suited for measuring 3D movement, linear travel, and 360-degree angle rotation.

The 3D magnetic sensor provides 12-bit data resolution all three dimensions of a magnetic field with lateral Hall plates for the z axis and vertical Hall plates for the x and y axes.

Designers can use the TLV493D-A1B6 to measure a large magnetic field range of ±150mTesla for all three dimensions, enabling a robust and flexible magnet circuit design that covers a long magnet movement. With low power consumption — 10μA during ultra-low power mode operations and 7nA in power down mode — the TLV493D-A1B6 provides contactless position sensing to applications currently using potentiometers or optical solutions.

The sensor provides a standard 2-wire digital I2C interface, which enables high speed bi-directional communication between the sensor and an external microcontroller with speeds up to 1 Mbit per second.

The TLV493D-A1B6 operates with a supply voltage range of 2.7V – 3.5V in a -40 to +125 degrees Celsius temperature range. Qualified according to JESD47, the sensor is ideal for many industrial and consumer applications, including joysticks, control elements in home appliances, multi-function knobs, and e-meter systems that use a 3D magnetic sensor to protect against tampering.

Also available from Mouser is the Infineon TLV493D-A1B6 3D Magnetic Sensor 2 Go evaluation kit, contains all the hardware required to demonstrate the capabilities of the TLV493D-A1B6 sensor and two onboard ARM Cortex-based microcontrollers.
