Leading power supply manufacturer, SL Power Electronics Corp, has announced what the company claims to be the industry’s smallest commercial 200W power supply and almost certainly the smallest medically rated 200W power supply available. Units in the GNT200 Series feature a power density of from 10 to13W/in³. “These are bold claims,” says Nigel Davies, SL Power’s European Managing Director, “But three years ago, it was only just possible to achieve around 100W from a 127 x 76 x 30mm (5 x 3 x 1.16in) form factor. The new GNT200 Series can give 240W peak power for up to 1 minute from the same package”

The new unit is an extension to SL Power’s highly successful GNT series of power supplies, which includes 30, 60, 200 and 400W models, with more to come.

GNT200’s are designed to fulfil both commercial and medical applications, where SL Power’s Condor brand is accepted as the worlds leading manufacturer of medical power supplies. The company has recognised and met the increasing needs of customers who require higher power ratings without the need for fan cooling which, in addition to being acoustically noisy, also reduces the mtbf of the equipment. Medical manufacturers particularly do not like the ability of fans to spread dust and germs in critical surgery areas. As a result the GNT 200 series has a convection rating as high as 150W.

The power supply is available in seven standard versions with outputs ranging from 12 to 48V, although the company can offer the product with any other output within those parameters to suit customers particular requirements. All products have a single main channel and two auxiliary 12 and 5 V outputs.

The products do not sacrifice features to achieve the small size. All units have, as standard, inhibit, enable, power signals and remote sense. Efficiencies achieved are high with 90% achieved typically at 230Vac.

GNT200’s have comprehensive agency approvals for both commercial and medical requirements. ITE agencies approvals include CSA,IEC, UL and EN 60950-1 and medical IEC, UL, EN 60601-1 and CSA 22.2 No 601.1. It is also available in Medical Class II variant (G2T200 series) for applications where earth connection cannot be guaranteed. The units meet conducted emission levels required by EN55011/22 Class B, FCC Class B. All models meet the requirements of the RoHS directive.
