Phihong USA has added a 24-port, rack-mountable midspan that can provide full 33.6W on all 24ports at the same time, and is fully compliant for the IEEE802.3at PoE PLUS standard. Designated the POE806U-24AT, the unit provides 33.6W per port with no need for power management and is available with or without a SNMP management port. The series is designed for higher power functionality including VoIP phones with streaming video, IP cameras with pan/tilt/zoom, 802.11n wireless access points, and many other security and networking applications.
“Users with enterprise class networks may now enjoy the benefits of a full 24-port midspan for IEEE802.3at compliant applications including WAP arrays, multi-function security cameras and call center telephony featuring streaming video,” said Keith Hopwood, vice president of marketing for Phihong USA. “The POE806U series is cost efficient with the lowest cost per port of the 30W multiport series, and with full power to every port, users can implement as many higher power devices as needed without worry of managing power allocation.”

When the IEEE-approved the 802.3at PoE PLUS standard in September 2009 it expanded the definition of Power-over-Ethernet applications from 12.95W in the 802.3af standard up to 25.95W to include more complicated security applications such as multi-function cameras, lighting security sensors and biometric devices. The POE806U-24AT complements the POE576U-8AT and POE576U-16AT as a third midspan in the 1U PoE PLUS midspan line-up, featuring a full 24 ports of IEEE802.3at-compliant output. Outputs of 33.6W per port allows for power degradation of up to 7.65Watts from the midspan to the powered device.

Standard features on the series include over-temperature, over-current, over-voltage and short-circuit protections allowing for the unit or outputs to be shut down without any damage. Also, it is compatible with 10Mb, 100Mb and 1000Mb base-T data rates, and offers backward-compatibility for IEEE802.3af-compliant devices.

As with all Phihong midspans, the POE806U series requires no power management and each port provides full power of 33.6W individually for a total output of 806W. The midspan’s port controls can be managed through a GUI for Microsoft Windows which is operated via a standard USB-Serial cable to install firmware updates and allows for the ability to turn on/off ports to reset devices that may be located up to 100 meters away from the network switch.

The POE806U-24ATN is available with SNMP management protocol to monitor and reset the midspan and/or individual ports through both remote web access or by the local-access GUI. As an option with SNMPv3; SSL/TLS encryption may be enabled by the user for additional layers of security.

The midspan measures 17.25” by 8.98” by 1.75” and is rack-mountable in a standard 1U 19” rack. Mounting brackets ship standard with the unit.
