Prior to the supply of the Murata Power Solutions D1U-W-2000-48-HB2C Powershelf units, the next-generation fuel cell systems were only able to be tested in one of the University’s laboratories. Now, testing can take place in different locations around the Campus, and more importantly, the team can demonstrate the system at public events. This allows the profile of the technology to be raised and for additional publicity to be achieved for the team’s sponsors.
The D1U-W-2000-48-HB2C Powershelf was chosen for its integrated, compact, high efficiency, high power density design and because its rack mounted configuration could be easily accommodated within the test rig that the team also uses as a display system.
Commenting on the selection of Murata’s D1U-W-2000-48-HB2C, Imperial Racing Green Team’s Mark Cordner said: “Murata Power Solutions’ D1U power supply allows us to break free from the confines of our fuel cell laboratory and demonstrate our novel technologies across Europe.” He continued: “The unit’s class-leading efficiency fits well with Imperial Racing Green Team’s philosophy of seeking responsible technologies for today’s environmental challenges.”
