High current shunts capable of high temperature operation

As power electronics evolve, the requirements for high current, low resistance sensing resistors continues to increase.

For industrial power control and automotive engine controls, high temperature operation is required. Many surface mount current sense resistor options have limited high temperature capability due to their technology.

Stackpole’s HCS series provides high power handling, precise sensing, and the ability to operate at higher temperatures efficiently and reliably. The HCS offers power ratings up to 10W up to 100oC, where many sense resistors are only rated for full power operation up to 70oC.

The raised resistance element improves the thermal footprint of the device and decreases PCB and terminal temperature. HCS resistance values as low as 0.2 milliohm ensure the high efficiency sensing in a surface mountable package. The all metal construction also provides very high pulse withstanding as well as the potential for operation up to 170oC instead of 155oC.
