The FAN8060 also allows a designer to simply adjust the external compensation to optimize the transient response for any condition. In addition, the user-selectable current limit provides protection against output overload and short circuit while its external synchronization pin reduces both EMI and crosstalk. Applications such as set-top boxes are particularly sensitive to noise and crosstalk, both because of their sensitive analog components and their close proximity to noisy applications such as televisions. Without resilience to EMI and crosstalk, these applications could experience a noise band, which is difficult to filter out and could compromise audio fidelity. With an optimized input range of 2.5 to 5.5V and an ultra–compact 10-lead 3mm x 3mm MLP package, the FAN8060 fulfills the voltage and space-saving needs of consumer applications such as GPS devices, PDAs, MP3 players, USB devices and digital cameras.
The FAN8060 is an example of how Fairchild Semiconductor optimizes designs with high levels of integration to improve efficiency and overall performance in consumer applications. Fairchild offers a variety of integrated switching regulators from 0.5A up to 10Amps to address the needs of DC-DC designs.
