Murata Power Solutions has introduced its new UEI-series of isolated, wide-range DC/DC Converters that deliver industry leading 50-60W of power output from a standard 40.6 x 50.8 x 10.16mm (1.6in. x 2in. x 0.4in.) PCB mounted, open frame package; plastic cased versions are available upon request.
The regulated UEI series has an operating temperature range of -40ºC to +85ºC and is ideal for a wide range of ‘current hungry’ applications including industrial, wireless and mobile communications, transportation, medical and instrumentation. The offering includes two 4:1 ultra-wide range input voltages: 18–75VDC Vin combined with outputs of either 3.3V @ 18A or 5.0V @ 12A for a total power of 60W, and 9-36VDC input, combined with 3.3V @ 15A, 5.0V @ 10A and 12V @ 4.2A for 50W of output power. Capable of stable no-load operation without external components, the UEI series uses a synchronous rectifier forward topology for high efficiency operation resulting in minimal heat build-up and the ability to be operated using convection cooling and without the need for fans. Full magnetic and optical isolation of up to 2250VDC provides basic insulation. Excellent ripple and noise specifications assure compatibility to circuits using CPUs, ASICs, programmable logic and FPGAs.

Extensive self-protection and shutdown features are incorporated in the new design, including: input under-voltage lockout, over-temperature protection, over-current ‘hiccup’, auto re-start, output overvoltage protection and reverse conduction immunity. Additional features include monotonic start-up, output voltage trim and remote on/off with either positive or negative logic.

The UEI series is fully RoHS compliant and all versions possess UL60950-1, CSA-C22.2 No.60950-1 and IEC/EN60950-1 safety approvals.
