Cyntech Components has announced a family of compact 60W power supplies with full medical safety approvals that are typically up to 90% efficient and have no-load power consumption of less than 0.5W. Power ratings are based on free air convection for operation at up to 50 degrees C ambient, eliminating the need for cooling fans in order to maximise reliability and minimise the space required within the system.
The open frame units have an industry standard 2” x 4” footprint, universal AC input (90 – 264 Vac) and come in a choice of single outputs at 5, 12, 15, 24 or 48 Vdc. All models feature overvoltage and short circuit protection and leakage current is less than 0.1mA, as required for IEC60601-1 and EN60601-1 safety approvals.

Low no-load power is an increasingly important requirement to meet European legislation to minimize energy consumption. Medical equipment is typically kept plugged into the mains in standby mode for long periods so standby power consumption can represent a significant proportion of overall energy consumption over the operating life of the equipment. At less than 0.5W no-load consumption these power supplies meet or exceed all current requirements.

The overvoltage protection uses a fast transient voltage suppressor to clamp the output. Short circuit protection operates in hiccup mode with automatic recovery requiring no manual reset after a short circuit incident.

The power supplies are RoHS compliant, available from stock and priced from 30 USD in quantities of 100 or more.
