CPI adds two higher power K- & Ka-band TWT instrumentation amps

Communications & Power Industries (CPI) has added two K- and Ka-band travelling wave tube (TWT)-based instrumentation amplifiers to its modular instrumentation amplifier product portfolio.

The PTCM1017 and PTCM1027 feature higher gain and efficiency performance than solid-state amplifiers. With a frequency coverage of 18 to 26.5GHz (K-band, PTCM1017) and 26.5 to 40GHz (Ka-band, PTCM1027), the amplifiers offer a power output exceeding 100W CW and can also be pulsed using an internal grid modulator.

Both amplifiers are optimised for applications such as electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) testing, radiated immunity testing, communications, electronic warfare (EW), radar and RF component testing.

Built-in features

Operating features of the two amplifiers include self-test, comprehensive fault diagnosis, Ethernet remote control and monitoring, and the provision of modular plug-and-play field replaceable printed circuit boards.

An Ethernet graphical user interface allows connection to any PC or laptop with a standard browser. This functionality enables CPI to offer customers on-demand support by remotely connecting to the amplifier to provide in-depth diagnosis and care, should it be needed.

The amplifiers also include TWT and power supply protection capability for additional peace of mind. The protection systems monitor critical performance parameters to ensure the product is not damaged in the event of incorrect operation. The TWT heater, grid and cathode voltage are continuously monitored and voltage standing wave ratio (VSWR) protection is provided.

Rugged and reliable

Designed and built to ISO9001 quality certification, the construction of the PTCM1017 and PTCM1027 is based on a modular 6U system that offers different configurations to meet customers’ requirements. The amplifiers are of rugged construction, with vibration testing to Military Standard 810G-Transport. The operating temperature can accommodate temperatures from 0℃ to +40℃ with 80% maximum humidity.
