RECOM has announced its new compact QFN SMT DC/DCs which are able to provide up to 6A in a miniaturised form.

When board space is at a premium, a newly available range of miniature step-down non-isolated DC/DCs with integrated inductors could be the perfect solution. The parts in RECOM’s RPZ series include cost-effective variants with outputs rated at 0.5A, 1A, 2A, 3A, and 6A with inputs down to as low as 2.3V and up to 7V, depending on the variant. Precision output voltages are programmable from 0.6V to a fraction of a volt below the maximum input. A further variant, the 5A-rated RPL-5.0, operates over a wide 2.75-17V input range and can be programmed for a 0.6V-12V output. All the DC/DCs are in low-profile QFN packages with footprints ranging from 2 x 2mm for the 0.5A version to 4 x 6mm for the 6A part. The wide input RPL-5.0 is 3 x 3mm. The parts feature thermally enhanced flip-chip technology and along with high efficiency, up to 92%, this allows an operation to high ambient temperatures, for example, 125°C for the RPZ-1.0 with derating.

Full protection is provided for all parts against short circuits, over-current, over-temperature, and input undervoltage making the RPZ and RPL ranges rugged and reliable in the most demanding of conditions. A power good and enable pin are available on selected variants.

Typical applications for the RPZ and RPL DC/DCs are imaging systems, distributed power architectures, optical modules, and portable battery-powered equipment in telecom as well as industrial applications.

Matthew Dauterive, MSc., DC/DC Product Manager of RECOM comments: “These new integrated DC/DCs are a perfect blend of compact design, power, and efficiency, with input and output options to suit a wide range of applications.”
