Automotive Motor driver with integrated current sensing EVM

The DRV8873 from Texas Instruments is an integrated driver for industrial and automotive applications. With ten amp peak current capability and 4.5 to 38V voltage range, this device supports a wide range of applications. PH/EN or PWM interface allows simple interfacing to controller circuits while also allowing independent ½ bridge control to drive two solenoid loads.

A current mirror approximates the current through the high-side FETs, and does not require a sense resistor. A low-power sleep mode is provided to achieve very low quiescent current draw by shutting down much of the internal circuitry.

Internal protection functions are provided for undervoltage lockout, charge pump faults, overcurrent protection, short circuit protection, and overtemperature with fault conditions indicated on an nFAULT pin and through the SPI registers.
