Switch mode power supplies offer an efficiency of up to 92%
A series of ultra-compact, high efficiency 500W switch mode power supplies with active PFC has been released by Stadium Power. These single output power supplies offer a high power density of up to 26W per cubic inch in a 127x76.2mm footprint. Typical applications for the AQF500 series include telecomms, data networking, industrial machinery, monitoring equipment, lighting and broadcast equipment.
IGBT & freewheeling diode function on a single chip
A 6.5kV power module that features IGBT and freewheeling diode functionality integrated into a single chip has been introduced by Infineon Technologies. This RCDC chip is suitable for modern high-speed trains and high-performance locomotives as well as for future HVDC electric power transmission systems and medium voltage drives used for example in oil, gas and mining industries.
Linear voltage regulators can deliver over 0.5A output power
A recent line of linear voltage regulators that can deliver over 0.5 amps of output power, the LVR-7815 series, has been announced by DATEL. The series is housed in a hermetically sealed ceramic package that makes it impervious to humidity and a suitable choice to be used in applications where humidity is a concern.
20V MOSFET saves space & power in mobile applications
Designed to save space, decrease power consumption and extend battery life, a TrenchFET 20V n-channel MOSFET unveiled by Vishay is available in the chipscale MICRO FOOT 0.8x0.8x0.357mm package. The Si8824EDB is claimed to provide the industry's lowest on-resistance for any 20V device with a 1mm2 or less than 0.7mm2 outline. It targets smartphones, tablets, wearable devices, solid-state drives and portable medical devices such as hearing aids.
Model to minimise the power consumption of mobile networks
At a celebratory event in New York City to announce the final results of the GreenTouch consortium’s five years of work, imec unveiled an advanced power model that provides a realistic prediction of the power consumption of present and future cellular base stations, which are vital to the mobile networks used by millions of people worldwide each day. The model supports a broad range of operating conditions and cellular base station types, c...
Supercapacitor charger features bidirectional operation
A bidirectional, programmable input current buck-boost supercapacitor charger with active charge balancing for 1- or 2-series supercapacitors has been introduced by Linear Technology. The proprietary low noise buck-boost topology does the work of two separate switching regulators, saving size, cost and complexity.
Programmable DC electronic loads test variety of DC sources
The 8600 series programmable DC electronic loads from B&K Precision includes three models with loads ranging from 150W to 250W, which can sink current up to 60A at wide voltage ranges up to 500V with fast transient operation speeds up to 25 kHz along with built-in battery and LED test mode functions. They are now on sale at Farnell element14.
Terminal blocks minimise onboard LED shadowing
New versions of WAGO’s 2060 series terminal blocks are on sale at Conrad Business Supplies. These additions join over 16,000 other WAGO products stocked by Conrad. The updated versions of the 2060 Series comprise the 2060-451, 2060-452 and 2060-453 and feature a newly designed white housing.
75W DC/DC converters suit automotive applications
MTM Power GmbH, a power supply specialist, has announced its URC series of 75W DC/DC converters for use in automotive applications. They have been designed as power supplies for use in vehicles, particularly for railway applications. The converters are available as a 19" plug-in version, or for wall mounting, both to be connected via a H15 connector, and can be switched on and off by the enable input.
Automatic transfer switches provide dual power sources
Power downtime or disruption is never acceptable for data centre equipment. It is common for mission critical devices to apply primary and secondary power sources, however, some network devices and entry-level servers are not designed with power redundancy. Designed for single corded equipment, the InfraPower Automatic Transfer Switches (ATS) from Austin Hughes provide dual power sources. If the primary source becomes unavailable, the device swit...
