Vishay announced that Kip Reiner and Aaron Ram from the Vishay Foil Resistors applications engineering team will give a technical seminar on Selecting Precision Resistors to Avoid Unforeseen Stress Factors, with an emphasis on ESD issues, at the 15th annual CMSE Conference. Reiner is senior field design engineer (FDE) and Ram is senior application engineer at Vishay Foil Resistors.
This premier conference on the use of components in military and space electronics is being held Feb. 7-10 at the LAX Radisson Hotel in Los Angeles. The conference focuses on the selection, application, reliability assurance, testing, and failure analysis of all types of mil spec and COTS electronic components, subsystems, and circuit boards, while providing engineers with the practical knowledge they need to select the best solutions for their applications. Complete information about the conference is available at http://www.cti-us.com/cmsemain.htm.

In the Vishay Foil Resistors presentation, which will include demonstrations of various resistor technologies, Reiner and Ram will explore the primary factors that influence resistor stability in real-world environments and how these can depart from the specifications published in datasheets. The effects of temperature (TCR and power TCR), pulses, SNR, CMRR, CTE (coefficient of thermal expansion) of the PCB, ESD, thermal EMF, and other parameters will be covered. A demonstration that illustrates in real time the differences between Bulk Metal® Foil, thin film, thick film, and wirewound resistor technologies — including their ESD properties — will conclude the presentation.
