Toshiba Electronics Europe (TEE) has expanded its family of miniature photocouplers with a new device that combines very high switching speeds with very low power operation. The TLP2066 photocoupler is ideal for applications requiring a combination of isolation, high speed data transfer and low power operation. Target applications will include logic systems in plasma panel displays (PDPs) and other digital home appliances, and high speed interfaces in modern factory automation systems.
Toshiba’s new photocoupler integrates a GaAlAs infrared LED and a high-gain, high-speed photodetector within a surface mount MFSOP6 package that measures just 4.4mm x 3.6mm x 2.5mm. Maximum propagation delay is just 60ns, leading to typical switching speeds of 20MHz.

Operating with a nominal power supply voltage of 3.3V, the TLP2066 has a maximum current consumption of just 5mA. The photocoupler is configured in an inverter logic (totempole output) format and provides an isolation voltage rated at 3750Vrms. An internal shield ensures a high common mode transient immunity of 15kV/µs (min).

Designed to comply with all international safety approvals, the TLP2066 offers guaranteed performance at temperatures ranging from -40ºC to 100 ºC.
