Maxim Integrated Products introduces the MAX4998 two-lane and MAX14998* four-lane ultra-high-speed, DisplayPort passive switches with separate AUX and HPD controls. By employing two independent digital-control inputs, the devices utilize n-channel switches to route high-frequency (beyond 8GHz) and low-frequency signals between a peripheral controller hub (PCH) and either a docking station or DisplayPort connector. These devices meet the new eDP VESA standards for DisplayPort applications, making them ideal for desktop and notebook PCs where glitch-free switching is needed. This compliance is enabled by ultra-low on-capacitance and return loss supporting data rates of greater than 2.7Gbps.
The MAX4998/MAX14998 operate from a single 3.3V supply, and are fully specified over the -40 degrees Celsius to +85 degrees Celsius extended temperature range. Both of the devices are available in industry-standard packages: the MAX4998 in a 3.5mm x 5.5mm, 28-pin TQFN package, and the MAX14998 in a 3.5mm x 9mm, 42-pin TQFN package. Prices start at $2.75 for the MAX14998 and $2.25 for the MAX4998 (each 1000-up, FOB USA).
