The demand for high voltage components, particularly for high reliability applications, is increasing. In many industries, high voltage power supplies are essential, especially in the medical, telecoms, communications, military and aerospace sectors. To meet this expanding demand, Syfer Technology has extended its range of high voltage radial capacitors.
In addition, for long term reliability and product continuity reasons, traditional and new designs are often manufactured using conventional through-hole assembly techniques. Although larger in size than equivalent surface mount devices, radial capacitors can take less board space as they are side mounted. They can also be less susceptible to mechanical damage and vibration.

Devices are offered in both C0G/NP0 and X7R dielectrics, and take advantage of Syfer’s expertise in multilayer ceramic technology. The range starts with the 8111M series, in voltages up to 630V offering capacitances from 4.7pF to 270pF (C0G) and up to 500V in capacitances from 100pF to 8.2nF (X7R). At the top of the range is the 8171M series extending to 5kV with capacitances of 3.3nF (C0G) and 18nF (X7R). For specialist applications, Syfer offers custom designs up to 10kV, on demand. Such high voltage parts are essential for some medical equipment, for example, such as X-ray and scanner systems.

Specific applications in growing markets include aircraft power generation, aircraft emergency egress lighting, and power supplies for X-ray equipment and scanners.

Standard ranges are RoHS compliant, and supplied with tin terminations. For applications currently exempt from the RoHS directive, tin-lead wire versions are available. Syfer is one of very few suppliers of IECQ-CECC approved radial lead capacitors, available for products up to 200V, often mandatory for European aerospace applications. In addition, Syfer can offer additional screening, such as 100% burn-in.

Prices depend on capacitance, voltage and quantity ordered. All catalogue parts are readily available in production volumes from the UK factory, based in Norwich, Norfolk, on lead times from 6 weeks.
