TTI has introduced the AVX Europe extended range of award winning FLEXITERM MLC capacitors that include new higher operating temperature versions in X8R dielectric for automotive under the hood, down hole sensors and other harsh environment applications.
The need for X8R performance has been driven by customer requirements for parts that operate at elevated temperatures, and they provide a highly reliable capacitor with low loss and stable capacitance over temperature. Typical applications include wire line logging tools such as gamma ray receivers, acoustic transceivers and micro-resistivity tools. They can also be used as bulk capacitors for high temperature camera modules.

The X8R dielectric has a maximum capacitance variation of +/- 15% between -55degC and +150degC, making it ideal for systems which operate at elevated temperatures. They are also qualified to the Automotive AEC-Q200 standard. Providing this series with FLEXITERM® termination system provides further advantage to customers by way of enhanced resistance to both, temperature cycling and mechanical damage.

FLEXITERM technology is a soft termination system that allows almost three times the amount of board flexure when compared to standard termination systems. This new high conductivity termination material was originally released using the AVX standard X7R dielectric to prevent failures in the harsh environment systems due to cracking. This technology offers a minimum flexure of up to 5mm, without internal cracks, versus the industry standard of 2mm and can achieve 3000 temperature cycles as compared to the industry standard of just 1000 cycles.
