100VDC MLCC breaks previous design barrier of 4.7µF

Murata has announced what it believes to be the world’s first 1210(EIA) size (3.2×2.5mm) 100VDC 10µF MLCC, breaking the previous MLCC design barrier of 4.7µF.

Guaranteed to operate at temperature up to +125°C, the GRM series capacitor (part number GRM32EC72A106KE05) has X7S characteristics and a K (±10%) tolerance. It is particularly suited for use in the 48VDC power supply circuits of network equipment and base stations.

In the past the required capacitance for these applications has typically been achieved by using two or more 2.2 and 4.7µF capacitors. In today’s space constrained designs, the need to reduce the number of capacitors is higher as is the need for capacitors rated at 100VDC.

Mass production commenced in June 2016.
