LM-79 testing delivers the electrical and photometric measurements of SSL products. In addition to evaluation of next-generation home lighting bulb replacements, LM-79 testing is critical for products such as flashlights which use a combination of LED lamps and reflective optics to create focused beams of light. These devices can be measured for angular distribution of light through use of a Type C Goniometer that moves the spectrometer or photometer relative to a light source to measure visible light across all viewing angles.
LED lighting is significantly more complex than standard incandescent and compact fluorescent lighting solutions. LEDs are designed to emit light at a specific color. The optical design of the luminaire can cause chromatic shifts in the light over different angles. Orb does goniometric measurements using a spectrometer to capture color changes that a traditional photometer, which only measures visible light level, will miss.
Orb Optronix’ lab has a Type C goniometer to provide measurement of the luminaire in its intended orientation. Tests include color-over-angle and goniospectroradiometer measurements, in addition to testing using an integrating sphere to produce both IES and ENERGY STAR ready reports.
Our laboratory features both a Type A and Type C Goniometer for luminaire testing.
