Ball mounted hollow retroreflectors

Hollow retroreflectors are a common sight within the aerospace and defence industries, as well as in laboratory settings. Retroreflectors act as a completely self-compensating mirror which return parallel incident light with accuracy to the source, regardless of the physical orientation of the part.

The technology utilises three mirrors assembled into a mutually orthogonal inside corner, using a proprietary process. A number of mirror coatings are available, from Laser Components from UV to far IR.

A range of retroreflectors are available, consisting of different sizes and mounting configurations, including ultra-stable variants, and models with a protective housing, for use in harsh environments. New to this range are break resistant ball mounted hollow retroreflectors for use in laser tracking applications. The all metal design offers increased durability and high accuracy. The 1.5” diameter is compatible with most manufacturers’ laser tracking systems, and is available in two centring options – 0.0001” and 0.0005”.
