Unlike discrete implementations that use a multi-chip approach, ADI’s single-chip ADRF6850 demodulator saves considerable board space, reduces cost, and simplifies development by integrating a 60 dB VGA (variable gain amplifier), a fractional-N PLL (phase locked loop) synthesizer with VCO (voltage controlled oscillator) and two baseband ADC drivers all in an 8 mm x 8 mm LFCSP package. A complete data sheet and samples are available at www.analog.com/adrf6850.
The ADRF6850 operates over a broad frequency range from 100 MHz to 1000 MHz and supports narrow band and wideband signal modes up to 250MHz. The device offers best-in-class RF performance with an input IP3 (third order intercept) of 22.5 dBm, P1dB (input compression point) of 12 dB and a noise figure of 11 dB. Furthermore, the ADRF6850 also supports the user selected SPI/I2C serial interface and is fully supported by the latest version of ADI’s popular PLL design tool, ADIsimPLL.
