Capable of operating at 80MHz, the new TMP92CF29FG combines 144Kbytes of on-board RAM with a 65K colour TFT/262K colour STN LCD controller, a number of on-board peripherals, and a variety of connectivity options including a touch screen interface. In addition to the integration, use of an LQFP package – rather than the BGA package typical of devices with this level of functionality – allows further cost reduction through use of simpler PCB designs.
Connectivity provided by the new microcontroller includes a two-channel MLC/SLC NAND Flash interface, an SD card interface and single-channel I2S, I2C bus and SIO/UART functionality. A single-channel, full-speed USB controller is also provided.
On-board peripherals include a 10-bit, six-channel ADC, an 8-bit timer/counter (eight-channel), a 16-bit timer/counter (two-channel) and an RTC. An on-board SDRAM controller supports up to 512Mbits of memory, while an on-chip MAC circuit performs high-speed processing. A memory management unit supports up to 2.1Gbytes of external memory.
The TMP92CF29FG is based on Toshiba’s TLCS-900/H1 32-bit CPU core, which combines RISC-level performance with the benefits of a CISC architecture. Forty-seven interrupts can be accommodated, while three HALT modes and a ‘key on wakeup’ facility minimise power consumption during standby mode.
Supplied in a compact, 176-pin LQFP, the TMP92CF29FG operates with internal and I/O voltages of 1.4V to 1.6V and 3.0V to 3.6V respectively.
In addition to the device, Toshiba can also supply a reference board that will allow designers to quickly develop applications based on the TMP92CF29FG. This board combines the microcontroller with all necessary interfaces and peripherals, including TFT displays in a range of size options. The board is supplied with a comprehensive suite of software that further simplifies the implementation of advanced user interface designs.
