Microcontroller for automotive body applications from NEC

NEC Electronics Europe today announced a new microcontroller for automotive body applications. The V850E/CAG4-M is a member of NEC Electronics’ powerful 32-bit RISC microcontroller family with embedded FlexRay interface. Offering high performance, large memory and fully-fledged communication interfaces, it is especially suited for high-end gateway and other body applications. The V850E/CAG4-M extends the popular V850 32-bit microcontroller family into the high-performance range, with the FlexRay and MediaLB interfaces supporting emerging standards for communication within automotive applications.

Capable of controlling up to 6 CAN interfaces, the V850E/CAG4-M is optimized for automotive body applications like gateways. The device’s embedded MediaLB interface provides connectivity to the MOST world, offering very high data throughput, especially for asynchronous data transfer. Dedicated motor control, real-time clock features and power-saving modes come into their own in body applications, as does the timer structure with various input capture and PWM output channels.
The Multi-LIN master macro can connect all 6 LIN channels very efficiently, with minimum CPU interaction. The FPU and 80 MHz RISC performance also make the V850E/CAG4-M an attractive proposition for new fields such as diagnostics and high-end server concepts.
