Kingston Digital Solid State Drives Endure where Hard Drives Fail

Kingston Digital Europe Ltd, an affiliate of Kingston Technology Company Inc., the independent world leader in memory products, today announced that Ashvertising, a Belgium based company specialising in outdoor digital advertising on ashtrays, has chosen the Kingston SSDNow V Series solid-state drive (SSD) as the official component to power its digital screens. The company chose SSDs over hard disk drives (HDDs) due to SSDs ability to withstand extreme outdoor weather conditions and deliver a higher performance to ensure quality of the advertising experience.

“With no moving parts, we decided to implement Kingston SSDNow V Series drives due to its superior reliability and endurance in extreme weather conditions” says Vincent Guillamme, Managing Director, DSC “The increased performance provided by the SSDs also ensures a high quality delivery of the digital adverts.”

Combining ashtrays with digital screens, Ashvertising designed a solution to allow brands to target outdoor smokers in public places. Ashvertising’s entire business model is based on an outdoor solution that operates 24-7 with minimal maintenance and where downtime is not an option. During the testing phase, HDDs often failed in adverse weather conditions.

Jim Selby, EMEA Product Marketing Manager, Kingston Technology said: “Whilst Flash is revolutionising servers and the computing platform, we are starting to witness a growing trend of deployment in the industrial sector. Our partnership with Ashvertising demonstrates the strong benefits that SSDs can provide this market.”
