Expanding the IoT portfolio with Sigfox Certification
ON Semiconductor has announced the expansion of the certification of its Sigfox wireless connectivity based solutions to the North American market at this year’s European Utility Week. This complements the existing certification of the robust, easy-to-use Sigfox products for Europe, and precedes a planned roll-out to Australia, New Zealand, Japan, and Korea by the end of 2016.
Auto cyber security boosted as IoT takes to the road
Joint development efforts have been announced between Trillium and NXP Semiconductors for next-gen automotive cybersecurity applications. The announcement was made at the Munich opening of ESCAR Europe, the leading global conference series on automotive cyber security.
Miniature WiFi device supplies missing link for the IoT
Futurists and technology prognosticators have been known to make starry-eyed projections about the so-called IoT. It’s a vision of a world where everything – from implantable biosensors and wearable devices to smart cars and smart home sensors – confers and collaborates wirelessly to make the world a better and more interconnected place. To date, this remains largely a dream.
IoT connectivity suite earns two technology awards
Two major technology awards have been awarded to CEL's Cortet IoT Connectivity Suite. The company’s solution received both the Communications Solutions Product of the Year Award and the 2016 IoT Evolution Product of the Year Award.
Low-cost modules to enable an IoT revolution
It has been announced that Sigfox, along with its ecosystem of partners, have enabled an IoT revolution thanks to low cost IoT communication modules. Enabled through the Sigfox ecosystem, the Sigfox certified and ready to use modules cost as little as $2.00 for European, Middle East and African markets, and less than $3.00 for US and Asian markets.
Low-power radio chip extends the reach of the IoT
The latest radio chip for the IoT from STMicroelectronics delivers extremely high energy efficiency for smart connected objects to operate for up to 10 years without replacing batteries. ST's new S2-LP transceiver is ideal for networked devices, such as alarm systems, surveillance equipment and smart energy-metering solutions, as well as long-range radio links used to connect devices like remote sensors directly to the Cloud without a local ...
Narrow band-IoT module achieves low data rate in IoT applications
electronica 2016 saw the launch of u-blox’s SARA-N2 Narrowband IoT (NB-IoT) module, which the company claims is the world’s first cellular radio module compliant to the 3GPP Release 13, Narrowband IoT (LTE Cat. NB1) standard.
Memory could hold the key to IIoT security
Electronic Specifier Editor Joe Bush spoke to Kris Baxter of Micron Semiconductor Products about the crucial role that security will play in the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT).
Programmable IoT gateway redefines connectivity
Sierra Wireless announced the availability of the FX30, the industry’s smallest, most flexible and rugged programmable cellular gateway. It provides a pre-certified, integrated embedded platform to connect any machine to any IoT application or cloud, enabling fast, scalable and global deployment of IoT solutions. The IoT is transforming organisations across all industries worldwide, enabling enhanced productivity and customer service.
Security from the outside in and inside out
The internet of things is a confusing concept. It implies that interconnecting devices is a new concept (it’s well worn), IoT devices are always connected to the internet (they’re not), and the centre of attention is the IoT device (it’s not). Michael Tennefoss of Aruba, a Hewlett Packard Enterprise company explains.
