Spread spectrum quartz oscillators in 7 x 5 and 5 x 3.2 mm ceramic cases are becoming increasingly obsolete. The PL671 series programmable spread spectrum oscillator ICs produced by PhaseLink / USA and represented exclusively in Germany by PETERMANN-TECHNIK from Kaufering are much smaller, less expensive and thus far better than the fixed frequency SST quartz oscillators in 7 x 5 and 5 x 3.2 mm ceramic casing.

In terms of jitter and phase noise, the PL671 series SST ICs are 5 to 8 times better than corresponding SST quartz oscillators. The frequency spectrum of the PL671 series SST ICs ranges from 1 to 200 MHz. In addition, the PL671 series SST ICs can be supplied with up to 3 different programmable frequency outputs with supply voltages of +2.5 and +3.3 VDC with a temperature range of –40/+85°C. There are also versions available which can be programmed with 3 different configurations and thus match the current global technical benchmark of spectrum components.

Centre spreads and down spreads can be programmed at increments of +-0.125% within a range of +-0.25 – +-4%. In order to reduce EMC, the components can also be programmed with the SST-Off function which still represents a 15 – 20 dB attenuation of the clocking signal and can thus be used in applications requiring clocking signal attenuation but without withstanding any spread.

The PETERMANN-TECHNIK specialists' service catalogue includes circuit development, analyses, simulations, and matching tests (adaptation of quartz crystals and ICs to ICs) etc., so that the user can implement his “time to market” schedule very quickly.
