PA module delivers 10W microwave power at up to 18GHz

A solid-state power-amplifier (PA) module that has been designed to provide a microwave power output of 10W CW over the frequency range 6 to 18GHz, making it particularly suitable for use in EMC test rigs and broadband military jamming systems is available from Link Microtek. Utilising GaAs FET technology, the MTronPTI PA1068 module is a compact, high-performance Class A amplifier with a minimum small-signal gain of 40dB and a gain flatness of better than 4dB peak-to-peak.

Noise figure and input return loss are specified as 8dB and 10dB respectively.

The device operates from a 12VDC supply and features built-in protection against load VSWR, input overdrive, over/under supply voltage and output overcurrent. It has an operating temperature range of -20 to 75degC.

Housed in a rugged, sealed case with SMA female connectors for RF input and output and a 9-way D-sub connector for control signals and power, the new power amplifier has overall dimensions of only 100 x 100 x 27mm excluding connectors.

The PA1068 module is ideal for standalone, array or TWT (travelling wave tube) driver applications and, if required, can also be custom integrated into a rack-mount unit with power supply, cooling and communication interfaces.
